You'll also need a timber or composite joist subframe (we don't supply this) — see the decking guide.
How many decking boards per m²?
Each pack contains 4 composite boards at 290cm × 15cm, covering about 1.74m². To work it out by hand: measure your deck area in square metres, divide by 1.74 and add 10% for cuts and the perimeter. A typical 3m × 4m deck (12m²) needs 8 packs.
| Deck size | Area | Board packs |
|---|---|---|
| 3m × 3m | 9m² | 6 packs |
| 3m × 4m | 12m² | 8 packs |
| 4m × 5m | 20m² | 13 packs |
What else you will need
Boards alone do not make a deck. You also need hidden fixing clips (one pack of 80 covers roughly 6–8m²), a joist subframe in timber or composite at 300–400mm centres (we do not supply this), and optional colour-matched edge trim to finish the exposed sides.
Common questions
How many decking boards do I need per m²?
Each pack of 4 boards covers about 1.74m². Divide your deck area by 1.74 and add 10% for cuts. A 12m² deck needs 8 packs.
Do I need fixing clips and joists as well as boards?
Yes. Hidden clips secure each board (one 80-pack covers ~6–8m²) and you need a joist subframe underneath, sourced separately.
How much cutting waste should I allow?
10% is standard for a rectangular deck, 5% for a simple square, up to 15% for diagonal laying.
