Caring for sintered stone
Sintered stone is one of the most forgiving surfaces in your home — but a few habits keep it looking new for the long term.
Day to day
Wipe with warm water and a soft microfibre cloth. For most spills that is all you need. A drop of pH-neutral washing-up liquid handles anything greasier.
What to avoid
- Abrasive scourers, steel wool, or melamine sponges — they dull the finish over time.
- Strong solvents and oven cleaners — keep them off the surface entirely.
- Acidic cleaners on polished finishes — vinegar, lemon juice, and many limescale removers are fine occasionally on matte but should be rinsed quickly on polished.
Heat
Sintered stone is heat-resistant up to several hundred degrees, so a hot pan straight from the hob is fine. The exception is sudden thermal shock — do not place a frozen item next to a hot one, and do not use a blow torch directly on the surface.
Scratches
The surface is extremely hard but not scratch-proof. Cut on a board, slide ceramics rather than drag them, and use felt pads under heavy decorative pieces.
If something stains
Most stains lift with a cream cleaner (Cif Cream or similar) applied with a soft cloth, left a few minutes, then rinsed thoroughly. For stubborn marks, a manufacturer-specific cleaner is worth keeping in the cupboard.
